When Should I Replace My AC Unit?

AC units get a great deal of work and as such it may be time to replace them and you not even know it. There are some signs and tips however that can help you tell if it is time to replace your unit. Knowing what to look for can make a huge difference and can make getting your AC under control easier than you might imagine.

Though the age of your AC is not the only determining factor, it should be one to consider. If you own an AC that was manufactured longer than fifteen years ago before the EPA started requiring that these units be more energy efficient and less harmful to the environment, you may need a replacement. No amount of maintenance is going to help an AC that is beyond its years and that has been working for far too long.

Another indicator that you may need to replace your unit is any malfunction or issue that you start to have with it. If you have a unit that frequently turns off, that does not cool as it should, or that takes far more energy than it should to run, you may need to consider replacement. Generally, you can tell when a unit is on the way out as it does start to slow down and has to work harder to do what it once did with ease.

The last indicator that you may need to replace your unit is of course the frequency of repairs. If you are having repairs done every few months it is going to be far more cost effective to get a new unit. If you are having pricy repairs that are worth more than the unit you may need a replacement. Lastly, if your technician suggests a replacement you are likely to need one.
