How to Properly Clean the Drains in Your Home

Drain Cleaning Detroit

If you have a bad odor, a stain or a clog in your drain you will need to clean out your drain. You should clean your drains on a regular basis to prevent problems. In fact, all drains in your home should have regular maintenance. Chemical drain cleaners do not always do the trick when it comes to cleaning out your drains. The drains might not unclog even after the application of chemical cleaners or else the drain keeps re-clogging time and again.

You can save money by opting to use a non chemical cleaner on your homes drains. Did you know that 1 cup of white vinegar poured down your drain can work as well as Draino? After you pour the white vinegar down the drain wait 30 minutes, then flush it out with hot water. If this does not work, repeat the white vinegar, and then add baking soda, again wait 30 minutes, and then do a hot water flush of your drains.

If chemical cleaners do not unclog your drain, you may need to take more drastic measures. A physical drain cleaning may be the only way to unclog your drains and clean them thoroughly. You will need to have or to purchase a plumbing snake, which you can buy at any hardware store. This plumbing snake will need to be fed down the drain pipe in an attempt to reach the clog. If this does not work you can also try to clean out the trap, and feeding the snake through the trap to reach the clog.

If the above does not work you may need to power auger the drain. This will cut through the clog, but should only be left to professional plumbers to do, as it is easy to do physical harm to your plumbing system with a power auger. Pipes can be damaged easily by a power auger. If snaking has not removed the clog you should call an expert plumber to perform an inspection of your homes drains.
